MUGA Maintenance
You’ve installed a Multi Use Games Area (MUGA) and the local kids love it, it’s getting loads of use. But what about that hefty set of maintenance instructions you received from the artificial grass manufacturer? Large sports clubs invest heavily in the machinery to maintain artificial playing surfaces, often having dedicated staff, tractors, brushes and sweepers. Money (and space to even turn a tractor) makes this an unlikely option for your local kick-about area.
Maintenance Service
At Murphy Playground Services we use a walk-behind mechanical brusher for small areas of artificial grass that’s compact enough to do the job in most small MUGAs. Our MUGA Maintenance service is available on a once-off or recurring basis and whilst on site we will also inspect the seams and joints and carry out any repairs to the surface and top up the sand or rubber infill.
Why Maintenance Matters
Depending on your budget and the amount of use your pitch is getting we’d suggest you get your pitch inspected and mechanically brushed at least twice a year to prolong the life of your MUGA and to maintain the quality of the playing surface. Regular machine brushing will keep the top surface of the pitch loose, permeable and infilling of sand / rubber will keep the surface level. Corners and penalty spots may need particular attention. Any damage to the surface should be repaired as quickly as possible. Litter, debris, leaves, weeds and chewing gum should be removed weekly if possible.
